Handing over Iraqi Oil to Multinationals

25-February-2007

[ Terrorism ]
Iraqi oil industry was nationalised in the early 1970's but the Iraqi parliament is on the verge of reversing this by passing new legislation to restructure. What is being proposed effectively hands over control to multinational oprganisations. This would I guess lead to destructive competition for oil production. Legally the oil will remain the "property of the nation". But the implications will be that "exploration and production contracts" will give exclusive rights to search for and pump out oil in specific areas. Most of the middle east have nationalised oil and reflects the importance to there economic develop... If pushed through Iraqi parliament it seems to be sucking a country of its key resource.

GET OUT OF LEBANON & BALANCED MEDIA FROM THE BBC IN GAZA

22-July-2006

[ Terrorism ]

Here's something I wanted to remember from a demonstration today in support of Lebanon. It was a demo outside BBC in Manchester linked with others around UK. Something I had not thought of was the shift in media from Gaza to Lebanon. The question is both need coverage and why not is this not so??? What is happening in Gaza while the attacks on Lebanon are takign place - the media needs to keep an eye and expose the situation in Gaza. This was followed by a demonstration in Albert Square. For those who know the place the banner below was wrapped on the monument !!

I’LL NEVER RETURN

04-July-2006

[ Religion , Terrorism , Identity ]

Just came across the powerful image and thought provoking poem by Meena. She was dedicate to the struggle of Afgan muslim women andhuman rights . The poster below is by an north American artist: Favianna Rodriguez Giannoni. Cool work with emotion and power ( http://www.favianna.com/ ).

I’LL NEVER RETURN
I'm the woman who has awoken
I've arisen and become a tempest through the ashes of my burnt children
I've arisen from the rivulets of my brother's blood
My nation's wrath has empowered me
My ruined and burnt villages fill me with hatred against the enemy
Oh compatriot, no longer regard me weak and incapable,
My voice has mingled with thousands of arisen women
My fists are clenched with fists of thousands compatriots
To break all these sufferings all these fetters of slavery.
I'm the woman who has awoken,
I've found my path and will never return.
Poem by Meena (1956-1987)

Struggle for Justice: Soweto 30 years back tomorrow...

15-June-2006

[ Terrorism , Racism ]

In South Africa 30 years tomorrow young people took to the streets (estimate of 10,000) to protest against being forced to learn Africaans in school. This was clearly viewed as the language of the oppressor. Police open fired and killed 566+ people . This was the worst crisis since the Sharpeville Massacre in 1961 - the Soweto uprising. Soweta was viewed as the beginning of the end for apartheid. Within 2 years the black working class took centre stage and by the late 1980's apartheid was on its knees. It forced a negotiated political settlement..

The image below by Camera Rwanda needs reading. Suggest you click through to her site and read the words by Lucille Davie.
